BAPO’s Patron

Our Patron – Alex Brooker

The British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO) is proud to continue its longstanding relationship with Alex Brooker, who has served as our Patron for several years. His enduring support and advocacy have played a vital role in raising the profile of the prosthetics and orthotics professions and in promoting the needs and voices of individuals who rely on these life-enhancing services.

Alex Brooker is a well-known journalist, television presenter, and comedian, widely recognised for his impactful work during Channel 4’s coverage of the 2012 London Paralympics and as a long-standing co-host on the popular TV show ‘The Last Leg’. Beyond his public persona, Alex brings a deeply personal connection to the field. Born with limb differences and having undergone a leg amputation during childhood, Alex has firsthand experience navigating the prosthetic and orthotic landscape. His lived experience, combined with his professional platform, uniquely positions him as a powerful and authentic advocate for the community we serve.

Over the years, Alex has used his voice and visibility to challenge outdated stereotypes and shift public perceptions around disability and limb difference. Through his work in the media, he has helped normalise conversations about disability, often using humour to disarm stigma and foster understanding. His contributions have inspired countless individuals—service users and clinicians alike—and continue to reflect BAPO’s mission to “empower the profession to enable the user.”

Alex’s ongoing patronage represents more than just a symbolic role. It embodies a shared commitment to inclusion, dignity, and innovation within the prosthetics and orthotics sectors. He exemplifies the ideals of empowerment, resilience, and self-advocacy, and his continued involvement with BAPO has amplified our message, helped engage the wider public, and supported our drive to shape a more inclusive and accessible future.

As we look to the future, BAPO remains deeply grateful for Alex’s continued dedication and partnership. His voice, passion, and visibility remain invaluable to our organisation, and we look forward to many more years of collaborative work in advancing awareness, support, and excellence in prosthetic and orthotic care.
