Learners

Supporting the Next Generation of Prosthetists and Orthotists

At the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO), we are committed to supporting and empowering all learners within our profession. This includes students currently enrolled in pre-registration prosthetics and orthotics programmes as well as those undertaking apprenticeships across the United Kingdom.

Our aim is to nurture and guide you throughout your educational journey and beyond—ensuring you are equipped, informed, and connected as you enter the workforce and develop your professional career.

Membership for Learners

BAPO offers a specially tailored membership package for learners at an accessible rate of £49.20 per year or £4.10 per month via direct debit. We believe in continuous support, which is why we offer a 50% discount on full professional membership for the first five years after graduation. This initiative is designed to ease your transition from learner to practicing professional while keeping you engaged with your professional community.

Benefits of Membership

By joining BAPO as a learner member, you gain access to a wide range of benefits:

  • Discounted access to BAPO-organised educational courses, national conferences, and other professional events.
  • A subscription to BAPOConnect, our tri-annual professional magazine featuring industry updates, clinical insights, and member contributions.
  • Guidance and professional support from your dedicated professional body on all matters related to prosthetics and orthotics.
  • Free access to BAPO’s mentoring platform, which connects you with experienced professionals.
  • Opportunities to contribute to BAPO’s work by joining committees as an observer.
  • Be part of a body that actively advocates for the prosthetics and orthotics profession at national levels.

The Learner Network

BAPO recognises the importance of giving learners a platform to shape their own educational and professional experience. The Learner Network is a dedicated initiative open to all prosthetic and orthotic learners across the UK.

The group’s mission is to:

  • Create a space for learners to connect, collaborate, and share experiences.
  • Provide meaningful input into BAPO’s strategic planning and learner-focused initiatives.
  • Influence how the professional body prioritises learner needs and promotes inclusion.
  • Enhance learner representation across the wider organisation.
